Another Victim of the Pandemic: Gender Equality
Join the Women Tech Council, Vivint and other Utah tech companies at the #GetHired Summit for women in technology.
The tremendous loss of life and physical suffering resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic has been heartbreaking. The outbreak’s impact is deep and far-reaching.
Among the victims is gender equality. It’s no secret that women are being disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, especially working mothers. Fast Company recently summarized the problem:
In September alone, 865,000 women dropped out of the workforce, more than four times the number of men, according to the Labor Department. Since June, job growth for married women has decreased by 0.3%, while job growth for single women has increased by 7.6%. McKinsey & Company estimates that the pandemic could erase six years’ worth of progress toward greater representation of women and women of color in senior leadership roles. In other words, employers are failing executive-level working mothers as well as mothers making minimum wage.
The United Nations agrees:
Women are not only the hardest hit by this pandemic, they are also the backbone of recovery in communities. Putting women and girls at the centre of economies will fundamentally drive better and more sustainable development outcomes for all, support a more rapid recovery and place the world back on a footing to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
We want to do our part. For starters, we’ve partnered with the Women Tech Council to create the #GetHired Summit for women in technology.
I invite you to join us Thursday, January 21 and Thursday, January 28 as Vivint and other Utah technology companies come together for a virtual discussion about opportunities for women in technology and our open positions. You’ll meet our teams and learn about our cultures. The Women Tech Council will also host a 3x3 Connection session during the summit where you can meet other women and men in technology and expand your network. Register below!
